Robbie Erhard, principal cellist of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, presents a program of his South Dakota Bach Project, an initiative to bring the iconic six Bach Cello Suites for Solo Cello to audiences across the state. The Cello Suites are some of Bach’s most recognizable works and are compositional explorations of the expressive range of the instrument and the depth of human experience. Join us for a program featuring the first three of these masterpieces: the pastoral first Suite, contemplative second Suite, and the celebratory third Suite. This program guides the listener through the inventive variety of Bach’s music, from peaceful to brilliantly energetic, from somber to elated jubilance. Hear Robbie bring these works to life on his historically significant c.1750 German cello in the beautiful acoustics of the Cathedral.
